Barbados

Although British for almost 400 years, history tells us that the Portuguese, the first Europeans to find the island, named it Os Barbados, the bearded ones, after the Bearded Fig Trees that grew on the beaches.

The most easterly of the Windward Islands, Barbados is 21 miles wide by 14 miles long. It is a place to calm the senses, wade in the clear Caribbean waters or bask in the sunshine on the sandy beaches. A destination that people return to year after year for the remarkable atmosphere. Barbados is an ideal introduction to the West Indies. The contrast of the island’s green interior with its plentiful flora and fauna, west coast palm fringed beaches, hotels and fine restaurants and the rugged eastern Atlantic side make it a fascinating place to visit and sample the Caribbean lifestyle.

Barbados West Coast is home to some of the Caribbean’s best known hotels and resorts and is the playground of the rich and famous. The beaches, activities and amenities are exceptional and in high season in particular attract large numbers of visitors.
